It's Official

On Monday night, I had dinner with Mandy at 99 Ranch El Cerrito, then headed up to Davis. We killed about two hours watching some TV then headed over to Woodland where my pre-order copy of The Burning Crusade was. The midnight launch there was pretty chill, but was great because there were less than 20 people. I picked up my copy as soon it it hit midnight and back. Sleep.

Up until Tuesday morning, I wasn't exactly sure if I had graduated from college or not. I picked up my diploma in the morning, which was quick, then I started to drive back to Emeryville for work.

But yes, now I'm really sure that I had indeed graduated college and earned a B.S. degree in Biological Science. And now I'm working with computer stuff for the time being. Heh.

Desktop Back in Business

I have upgraded the CPU to a Core2Duo E6400 and the graphics card to the only AGP card left these days, 7800GS.

Anyway, I figured out that my 6800 was the card that was causing my system to not boot up at all. I had gotten a new power supply thinking it was the issue, but it wasn't. Then I purchased a new cpu and motherboard thinkging it was the motherboard that was f'ed up. but alas, it still didn't boot up. Then I finally started taking out hardware piece by piece (yeah I should have done this to begin with, but I was lazy), and it was the video card that was busted. I could easily return the C2D, but it was a good enough deal, so I decided to just keep it and get a new card as well. Now I guess I have a working motherboard/p4, so when I upgrade the current shit motherboard (which would also require upgrading to a pcie vid card and ddr2 memory) I'm using, I can toss that 7800 back to my old configuration.

Anyway, back to cleaning up this desktop that's been out of commision for the last 6 months.

HD-DVD vs Blu-Ray

At CES, Sony claimed that Blu-Ray has won the battle from a week of sale due to their new console. Not too far from CES, AVN, an adult trade show, and a multi-billion dollar industry, has adult studios stating that Sony does not want porn published on their media. I don't know about you, but to me, that's a dumb move. HD-DVD wins.

iPhone is all the news today after Steve Jobs gave his keynote this morning. I don't remember where I talked about this, probably on IRC, but I do remember saying that Apple will transform their iPod into a phone sooner or later. I made that conjecture long ago because of the fact that they were slowly adding features that were found in phones like games. While cell phones worked the other way, and started adding mp3 features and other junk to their phones. It was inevitible that the two different devices would meet in the middle because they now have the same exact functions.

I must say that it's nicely designed and sleek, but yeah, if there's anything good out of the Apple camp, it's how they design their products to look appealing. However, the fact that it still uses iTunes turns me off because I don't believe in being forced to use that software when they can easily just install a simple driver that allows a PC user to just drag and drop using Windows Explorer. The second reason I am likely not going to ever own one is the fact that the phone is currently exclusive to Cingular. I have nothing against Cingular, but if you want a kick-ass plan (many minutes, unlimited n&w starting at 7pm, unlimited EvDO data internet) that can only be found at Sprint.

NHL 2K7 (Xbox 360) - Mini-Review

I've been playing this game for a few weeks now. I play at least one season game every day or two when I have some free time. I won't go into details since there are plenty of game review websites out there anyway, but I am going to throw in my two cents. For the most part, NHL 2K7 is an excellent sports title, and likely the best NHL video game because EA sucks. Also, another good reason I got it was because of the fact that a San Jose Sharks member, Joe Thorton, is on the cover. Go Sharks! Anyway, the most recent gripe I have about it is this lingering bug that seems to be an issue that has been present since it's 2k6 iteration of the game. For me, certain season games, after completion, will freeze up no matter how many times I replay it and hope that it doesn't freeze. It will always freeze at the same spot. After doing a little research online, it became apparent that I wasn't doing anything wrong, but the fact that the developer of the game clearly has some shitty as quality assurance to have something to blatantly obvious slip by. But besides, that, great game.
