Why the Wii?

It has not stopped amazing me that the Wii is still doing so well, yet in reality does not have much to offer after being in the market for a year. I can probably count all of the good games for that system on one hand for crying out loud. One of which, no one probably even heard of unless they are in tune with the higher tier gaming blogs and sites out there (Zack & Wiki). Do people really think that it's a really good system simply from what they have seen it can potentially do? Have they actually played any game besides Wii Sports (one of the better games btw)? Do they realize that the controls really aren't what they seem and more than likely a gimmick and unresponsive? I really don't think people know this. Especially the parents that go out and just buys their kids the machine. It is amazing what a little motion sensing, a brand name of Nintendo, and a cheap system using 7 year old technology can do. Hats off to Nintendo for achieving that feat. But as a note to the wise, the Wii isn't what it was cracked out to be. It's a nice change, but nothing to go apeshit over.

And after finishing Z&W, my Wii is now collecting dust again. SMG? Bleh, I think I've had enough Mario for over 10 years.

Black Friday

I decided that I needed to write down what I spent money on this month. Dell computer and 24in LCD for about 700. 42in Panasonic Plasma 1080p for about 1200. A bunch of miscellaneous stuff. Several Xbox 360 games.

/laugh at iphone buyers

http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=42178 Good old Apple and owning their loyalist. I laughed when the phone was first released and purchased by idiots, and I will laugh again now for the idiots now realizing they are idiots. Give Apple a month to two to drill through these remaining 8GB models and they'll release the better 3G version. Seriously, why do people even think about paying 300-600 for a 2.5G phone.

Yahoo! Widgets

For the past few days, I have found myself toying around with Yahoo! Widgets. It is a really cool application that lays the foundation for people to create small apps that can range from completely stupid to infinitely useful.

I was led to this app when I was searching for a replacement for Post It! Notes because I had grown tired of it. I found Yahoo! Notepad, which was a widget and worked great. Since then, I have been checking out a bunch of other neat widgets including the Flickr widget that pretty much allows me to do everything with my photos without loading the website itself. I've also installed the Yahoo! Weather widget, which is one of the more visually appealing weather apps I've seen, and also not very intrusive if you don't want it to be.

DeepDiscount.com

Yesterday, deepdiscount.com had a variety of games priced around $1-6 dollars. Some games were good, while others weren't so good. Obviously, because of the ridiculously good price it was probably too good to be true. I was able to checkout with over $300 in games for $30. Today, I received the email that it was cancelled because they had a price mistake. Ok fine, but seriously, what the hell are they really doing. Is this company doing some sort of fake advertising to drive page views to their shopping site or do they really stupidly mis-price their products. I heard that a week or two ago, they did nearly the same exact thing with their dvd site over at deepdiscountdvd.com. It seems to me this is some bullshit way to get people to register, input their information and buy some stuff they will just cancel because they have a disclaimer that they have the right to refuse purchases of mis-priced items.

I guess I want to say is that that is bad business, and if it's some marketing ploy, that's bad marketing because I will never ever shop from there ever again. I will also not recommend it to anyone. F that shit.

Other Congrats

Congrats to the class of 2007.

My brother, Mandy, Louisa, Anne and uh whoever else is graduating this year. Yeah, I can't think of anyone right now, my bad. I must be getting old and forgetting things. ;P

People Getting Together

Wow, when people I know personally are getting married, it's a pretty good sign of getting old! My dear high school buddy, and partner-in-crimebadminton, JoEllen, got married to Mr. Ben last year. My other friend from middle and high school, who I grew up playing sports with, Chris (who also happened to date JoEllen at one point, dang these two are quick) is going to be finally tying the knot with Raquel in less than two months! And a friend, s to the b, aka Johnny, who I've only met once or twice, , but have gotten to known quite well over years, will also be tying the knot with his significant other, Thao, later on this year. But wait, there's more, a cool dude I met when I worked at Gamers.com, Stephen, as of today, is now engaged with his long time gf, Cathy, who is equally as cool.

Congrats all of you!

Web 2.0 Shopping

jellyfish.com

This is a neat little shopping site that makes buying things on the internet like a game show. It ends up offering some good deals in the process.

I just watched some Xbox 360 premiums get sold for 38ish% off, heh. Basically, X amount of product is placed up for grabs, users choose a % they think the product will drop to before it is sold out. once it start, the price starts to drop and people can buy it at whatever price they click buy on. when X amount is sold out the "game" stops. The person who guessed the closest percentage of drop gets to spin some wheel. people who bought the item get their item.

It's a pretty interesting take on something simpler like woot.com.

Lithium Technologies, the company I work for, announced today that we have acquired $9Million in funding. As stated in the release, we've been a profitable company without funding before, but this additional sum of money will allow the company to do things we are aiming to do. It'll be exciting to see how we grow.

How Unfortunate

The windshield of my new car has a crack that stretch across about 1/4 of the pasenger side. A few days ago I remember hearing a pebble or something small smack the windshield while on the freeway, but it was all good because my car was always in the parking garage during the day. Yesterday, at home it got full exposure to the sun, and I guess that was all it took to make the crack expand from a small nick of the pebble to a full-fledged crack. Sucks...

In other news, I have a Wii now, thanks Mandy! :D I picked up Wii Play today, which included a remote, so it's two player capable now!

The Disappearing Cans

At work, I probably go through about one can of diet Coke a day for a bit of a caffiene and sugar fix. Anyway, the main point of this story is what happens to my empty cans. I leave empty cans on my desk, and they just disappear by the time I get to work the next day. It seems that the cleaning lady has just been taking all my cans! And I can't blame her, that's like 5 cents a pop, but what if I want those 5 cents!

Thus, I did a little experiment. My first experiment was simply placing my empty cans at a less visible area of my desk. This spot was on top of my cabinet, which was underneath my desk. I was able to place nearly 7 days worth of cans there. Then, one weekend, all of the cans disappeared. Good game, she finally found it and took it regardless of the fact that it was hidden in a more private location.

My second experiment involved these EMPTY boxes that have been sitting on my desk for months. THESE boxes are something that I've been waiting for the cleaning lady to dispose of. In fact, one of them still remains, and I'll get to why it still remains. I figured that if she wasn't going to take my boxes then perhaps I should start storing my cans in there. That was exactly what I did, and it worked out fine for a few days, until one day, my box and cans were gone. Clearly, the cleaning lady finally saw some cans in it and decided to take the whole damn box with her. And of course, the box that is filled with scraps of paper and other trash is still here to this day. Seriously, what the f...

Well, now that I know that the cleaning lady jacks my empty cans, I'll just have to one up that biatch that doesn't clean up stuff unless there's cans in it. My private file cabinet will now serve as an empty can collector. Take that!

Being Cripple

Don't you just hate it when you're sleeping then you suddenly wake up because your leg cramps up? Yeah, that happened to me this morning. I was able to go straight back to sleep, but when I woke up for work, I felt the pain it caused. I hopped to the bathroom on one leg because the leg that cramped out was hurting bad. It was painful to even stretch it a little. Then, later, I limped my way from the parking lot to the office.

Now, after a few hours have passed, I can somewhat walk more normally, yet the a little bit of pain is still present.

Oh, and I had a calzone for lunch.

It's Official

On Monday night, I had dinner with Mandy at 99 Ranch El Cerrito, then headed up to Davis. We killed about two hours watching some TV then headed over to Woodland where my pre-order copy of The Burning Crusade was. The midnight launch there was pretty chill, but was great because there were less than 20 people. I picked up my copy as soon it it hit midnight and back. Sleep.

Up until Tuesday morning, I wasn't exactly sure if I had graduated from college or not. I picked up my diploma in the morning, which was quick, then I started to drive back to Emeryville for work.

But yes, now I'm really sure that I had indeed graduated college and earned a B.S. degree in Biological Science. And now I'm working with computer stuff for the time being. Heh.

Desktop Back in Business

I have upgraded the CPU to a Core2Duo E6400 and the graphics card to the only AGP card left these days, 7800GS.

Anyway, I figured out that my 6800 was the card that was causing my system to not boot up at all. I had gotten a new power supply thinking it was the issue, but it wasn't. Then I purchased a new cpu and motherboard thinkging it was the motherboard that was f'ed up. but alas, it still didn't boot up. Then I finally started taking out hardware piece by piece (yeah I should have done this to begin with, but I was lazy), and it was the video card that was busted. I could easily return the C2D, but it was a good enough deal, so I decided to just keep it and get a new card as well. Now I guess I have a working motherboard/p4, so when I upgrade the current shit motherboard (which would also require upgrading to a pcie vid card and ddr2 memory) I'm using, I can toss that 7800 back to my old configuration.

Anyway, back to cleaning up this desktop that's been out of commision for the last 6 months.

HD-DVD vs Blu-Ray

At CES, Sony claimed that Blu-Ray has won the battle from a week of sale due to their new console. Not too far from CES, AVN, an adult trade show, and a multi-billion dollar industry, has adult studios stating that Sony does not want porn published on their media. I don't know about you, but to me, that's a dumb move. HD-DVD wins.

iPhone

iPhone is all the news today after Steve Jobs gave his keynote this morning. I don't remember where I talked about this, probably on IRC, but I do remember saying that Apple will transform their iPod into a phone sooner or later. I made that conjecture long ago because of the fact that they were slowly adding features that were found in phones like games. While cell phones worked the other way, and started adding mp3 features and other junk to their phones. It was inevitible that the two different devices would meet in the middle because they now have the same exact functions.

I must say that it's nicely designed and sleek, but yeah, if there's anything good out of the Apple camp, it's how they design their products to look appealing. However, the fact that it still uses iTunes turns me off because I don't believe in being forced to use that software when they can easily just install a simple driver that allows a PC user to just drag and drop using Windows Explorer. The second reason I am likely not going to ever own one is the fact that the phone is currently exclusive to Cingular. I have nothing against Cingular, but if you want a kick-ass plan (many minutes, unlimited n&w starting at 7pm, unlimited EvDO data internet) that can only be found at Sprint.

NHL 2K7 (Xbox 360) - Mini-Review

I've been playing this game for a few weeks now. I play at least one season game every day or two when I have some free time. I won't go into details since there are plenty of game review websites out there anyway, but I am going to throw in my two cents. For the most part, NHL 2K7 is an excellent sports title, and likely the best NHL video game because EA sucks. Also, another good reason I got it was because of the fact that a San Jose Sharks member, Joe Thorton, is on the cover. Go Sharks! Anyway, the most recent gripe I have about it is this lingering bug that seems to be an issue that has been present since it's 2k6 iteration of the game. For me, certain season games, after completion, will freeze up no matter how many times I replay it and hope that it doesn't freeze. It will always freeze at the same spot. After doing a little research online, it became apparent that I wasn't doing anything wrong, but the fact that the developer of the game clearly has some shitty as quality assurance to have something to blatantly obvious slip by. But besides, that, great game.
